So took my car to one of my brothers guys shop "ROMtech" guy does ALL the work himself and is doing pretty well..took it in for the rear brake pads as my iDRIVE was telling me -320 miles past the life ..he tells me that i will have to change the rear rotors as well

I mentioned that my coolant was depleting and that i had to fill up twice a week and he checked out the radiator and it was in pretty bad shape..picking the car up in the morning and he says that everything will cost around $1100 for rear pads, rear rotors, and new radiator...good or no?

Apples vs oranges ... need more data!

?? Original equipment parts or aftermarket parts ??
?? flushing brake system ??
?? Radiator + overflow tank + hoses ??

Even with original BMW parts this seems a tad high. Have you asked for a breakdown for parts & labor?

I can add this, Ive had several BMWs and $2500 to $3000 can come quick, on any BMW at a repair shop. I say why take a risk, get the warrantee on a credit card if you have to and pay like 10% finance charge. In the long run the $2500 or $3000 you put on the credit card to keep your in working order wont be a one time payment, I promise. This goes for the most well kept BMW, they just seem to need "attention" from time to time and like I mentioned, $2500 will come on quick. Good Luck

That's not gonna cover his pads and rotors though. That's normal wear and tear, so he'd have to spend the 2.5 to 3K + whatever it costs for the brake job.

based upon real oem prices its aprox $700 in parts and $400 in labor... i think your brother needs better friends the whole job shouldnt take more than 4 hours, thats 100 per hr! even if it takes 6 hours thats 67 per hr, those are dealer prices! he's not cutting you a "buddy" deal... good luck

pads- 134.38
rotors- 140.84
sensor- 31.50
rad- 366.12
hoses?
=672.84 parts
-1100
=427.16 labor

First of all, realoem prices and REAL prices are very different.
If you could get parts for Realoem prices, please share, I would love to find anything THAT cheap.
Second, I don't know where you from, but here in TX, out of 4 dealers that are close to me, cheapest going labor rate is $120 per hour.

At the same time, OP, please don't ASSUME anything. Ask for a detailed breakdown of pricing - parts, labor, everything.
Changing brake pads, sensors and rotors on a 5er is an hour job, another 30 min max for a brake fluid flush. You could DIY next time, its real easy.
Rad and hoses + coolant flush is a bit more involved though.
Asking if this price seems right given the facts, is pointless.

That seems pretty high for those easy repairs....For what you stated, you could go to any shop and have them do those repairs....These are very basic repairs that require hardly any skill to do.....

First of all, who said those prices are set in stone? I used real oem as a reference point, since there isn?t a better website to look up for parts. Now, if your spending additional 50+% of what?s listed, then you gotta be a jackass, just so you can brag you have genuine bmw parts?? When you know in fact there are aftermarket parts that are much superior in quality and competitive pricing? so get off your high horse! Second, my hypothetical numbers are close to your rates as dealers charge according to the time fame of repair and not necessarily the actual hours worked. So in this example, a seasoned mechanic should have no problems banging this out less than 3 hours; my number is $133.33 an hr. Third, the op stated it was his brother?s friend and from where I come from, a buddy discount is almost free.

I think the op asking for opinions is not pointless! whats the deal with your attitude?

also, you can get 25% off from gary @ newport bmw.
