you'll probably have to disassemble the taillight and get it out.

Nice Mike! I was afraid of that which is why I'm asking - hate to have to disassemble the whole damn thing just to get that sucker out, but looks like I might.

Couldn't you just remove the taillight assembly, remove the bulb and shake it out?

The taillight isn't hard to remove.

Or just remove the bulb assembly and stick a wire in there with a piece of rolled up tape on it and try to fish it out.

The better question is how did the fly get IN there?

or you could try removing the light bulb, get a chopstick (i'm asian) with a piece of tape at the end and try and fish it out.

Well I'm not asian, but do play the drums...I was thinking of a drumstick with gum on the end.

I never had to either A. remove the bulb or B. remove the tail light itself, so wasn't sure about it.

Gum... falls off stick and/or stocks to the back of the brake light... that would suck!

There are attachments for vacuum cleaners (central heating radiator sucker ) which will easily remove your fly.
Good luck.

There are several long thin graspers that may work. I have one that has a tip like the image below. When you squeeze the handle the three arms grasp together.

Are you sure the fly isn't just sleeping?
