What was that big CHANGE? Remember BMW said there was going to be a BIG change across the range of the E60 that was not noticable to the eye but was certainly big enough to delay the M5 because they wanted to incorporate it into the M5 before releasing it.

What was that BIG change? it was suppose to be incorporated into the cars in early 2005, as in early 2005 year like jan feb or march build cars what happened? what was it?

little more info here

Must be the 3D Nav and the extra Ruthenium bits on the vents.

I was being a smart ass.

Since nothing seems to have popped up that qualifies as a "BIG" change I'd say it was either hype or they were covering with excuses for some problem/delay.

I thought the "big" changes were making the 5 series Euro NCAP rating - 4 stars crash worthiness.

That would qualify as MAJOR modification... but that was done earlier in late 2004 not early Jan Feb or March 2005....

cuz when they reported a delay in the M5 with "major modification" it was back in November and that NCAP crash test thing has already been implamented in the E60s that were being built.

My guess is that M5 team would take several months to incorporate the major modification done on the regular 5 to improve the NCAP test result. If the regular 5 got it in late 2004, I am not surprised that it took few more months on the M5. The major modification would require addition road / track study. That's just my speculation.

Unlike Mercedes Benz AMG's parallel development between AMG and none AMG cars and MB chairman's commitment of introducing AMG almost simultaneously for every brand new series (C, E, CLK, CL, S, etc). BMW MotorSport takes a lot longer to develop a truly special driver?s car. There is a longer lag time in development of M.
