Among cars in the luxury sport segment, only Lexus models have fewer problems - and that's saying something.? And you can expect that the E60 will get more reliable with each model year.

Here's the JD Power press release showing BMW ranked 3rd overall in initial qualtiy (behind Lexus and Jaguar), and the E60 ranks 2nd to the Lexus in the mid-luxury segment.

Thanks-- I hope the next Consumer Reports reliability update in the annual auto issue shows the same result as this!

I've only had one problem (window anti-trap icon keeps showing up) but per a previous thread, Forbes listed the 5 series as one of the least reliable luxury cars.

Maybe BMW doesn't advertise enough in Forbes or maybe the data Forbes had was limited to just a few early owner experiences. In any case, it certainly hasn't been my experience with this or the previous generation 5 series.

My only problem with this car is how to afford the next one (I'm drooling over the M5 at the moment).... But even with all the minor glitches... it is still a car above the rest and would recommend it to anyone

I am on my third 530 due to problems (all are E60s) so I would not really call them reliable. I, too, though have lowered my Perfectionist needs and have learned to live with the software problems. Overall, it is a great car that is worth the problems.
