i was reading and wanted to see if anyone knew what the deal was. on a hybrid it charges/helps charge the battery, but on standard vehicle would this replace the alternator to charge the battery, seems like it could or would considering the much smaller battery and usage that it puts out? huh just curios to see if anyone knew. if it can replace the alternator would that mean less draw on the engine, and more power?

Brake energy regeneration is used on the efficient dynamic BMW cars if thats the same thing you on about. It uses the alternator to charge the battery up when the car is braking or coasting. Meaning its not using extra fuel/engine power while the engine is moving the car. Obviously if the battery is low on power the alternator will charge all the time to get the battery to a certain level so it doesnt go flat but it will intelligently control the use of the alternator saving fuel, it actually has very little to do with the brakes thats just one of the times it works.
