Default Red alarm light under mirror

Dubbed the "clown nose" by some, I just realized something with my vehicle that I thought was normal for a very long time, but the red alarm light stays lit ALWAYS. It doesn't blink like others, doesn't go off when driving. In fact, it stays RED when driving. Stays the same way when locked. Taken a look through all of Google's universe and can't find a single thing about it. Clearly this isn't normal since it is supposed to blink, so what could be wrong with it? Any thoughts/comments are appreciated.

I think that's telling you there's something wrong with the system. Hold on and let me see

Have you checked for codes. Your tilt sensor behind the rear bumper may need new batteries. Not too sure because the manual does not state a steady on status. I had to replace my batteries in my sensor a couple years ago but do not remember the light status. I was getting g an error on DWA that's how I knew to replace the batteries

Thank you for your comment. I have checked for codes and nothing shows up in regards to the alarm or anything abnormal. How would I access this sensor?

What are you using to check for codes. If it's a generic reader then the error will not pop up. You'll need to use a reader that can read BMW codes and all modules.

The sensor is behind the passenger side rear bumper. I didn't know mine was bad until I ran a full diagnostic.

Keep in mind I'm just giving you an option because there is so much tied into the DWA network that can go bad. Replacing the battery is just one idea that's cheap to try. They last around 12 years since they are rechargeable.

Unfortunately it is a generic reader that reads DME only, I will have to source a BMW specific one. Do you have any recommendations for one?

Look on Amazon or eBay and buy whichever one you can afford. They all read the same BMW Codes.

I currently use a Bluetooth reader in combination with a few apps, but I would need to find one that specifically reads BMW codes only yes?

No only but can also read BMW codes. I have a launch that read BMW specific codes and other cars. I think they have one under $100 that a lot of people purchase which is good for all cars

Yeah I've owned Creator 110+, Foxwell, Ancel and Autophix and they all read BMW codes on top of generic obd2.
