I've lived in snowy climates all my life, so your comment about snow hurting paint struck my funny bone. The only issue is if the car is in freezing rain and gets a coat of ice on it. Any attempt to chip off said ice will hurt the paint - if the chipping tool hits the paint. The ice itself doesn't hurt the paint.
Normal snow that accumulates on the car is usually just brushed off. If it is hard and crusty, which does happen occasionally, you just let the sun take car of it or maybe take to a car wash or heated garage.
If your car sits outside during a windy blizzard, you can get snow packed into the wheels. The weight of the snow pack will take the tires out of round. You just have to wait until it warms up. I recently test drove a new 7 series that was on the dealer's lot after a storm, and when I tried to get it up to speed on the interstate it drove like Fred Flinstone's vehicle. We had to slow down and return.
I invite you to South Dakota next winter for some hands on training/experience!

lol, i appreciate the offer, but i think i'll decline. tonight it's supposed to be 41 degrees here and that's cold to me. in reference to the paint damage i was asking about, perhaps saying "snow" didn't quite get across what i meant, but you touched on it when talking about the snow freezing over and the ice. i certainly wasn't talking about nice fresh powder.
