I wouldn't say the forum is "picky" about things, diligent about it's structure maybe, but not picky.

Either way, in my opinion, you posted this in the proper forum.

Then again, if you'd have only done a search...

I got my 2006 530xit (with auto transmission) back from the dealership (in CA) after they applied the service bulletin for the recall.
It seems that it has affected the performance in a negative way:

1.) It feels like I lost 25-35 HP.
2.) There is now virtually no difference between normal drive and sports mode.
3.) When doing a kick-down the car doeas not "pull" anymore like it did before.

Is it just me or did anyone else's performance suffer after the recall for 06E-A01?

M3Cab03, welcome to the best source of information on the E60.

I can't say for sure since I didn't have to deal with the recall but one thing that could be going on is that your car is "re-learning" your driving style, etc. Many things about the car, especially the transmission, are adaptive and can get reset during a software upgrade.

According to posts in the other thread about this recall (link is above in post #2) a complete software recoding of the car is performed to remedy this recall issue so you might want to keep driving the car as you normally would and see if things improve...

I got the same notice. What happens if I don't get the recall done? I know it might not pass a smog test, but in California you don't need them to renew your registration for several years after the car is new (I think it's 4 years). I'm always a little nervous about reprogramming the car.

Yeah, I wouldn't have brought my car in for the recall reprogramming, however, I wanted to get the MP3 retrofit. My car has run perfectly since receiving it so I was a little nervous too.

Needless to say I brought it in last Sat. morning and they had problems reprogramming. They couldn't continue working on it until today (Tues.). I have my fingers crossed. The one upside of this is that they gave my a 3.0 Z4 loaner. Very fun to drive

Well up to a point you will be in control, as long as you keep the car out of the service departments hands. But, once you take the car in for ANY service, they will see the recall info on the car and WILL update your software whether you ask them to or not. In California it is mandatory for them to do this.

Sorry, screwed up on the last post.

I had the emission update installed yesterday. They had the car about 4 hours. The car's better now. Seems to have more power. In addition, I don't have to hit the Idrive to cancel the message. it turns off after about 30 sec. Then the usual panel comes on for another 30 sec. and then whatever you were looking at last time before shutdown, i.e. radio, comes on.
