Yesterday I received a recall notice indicating that BMW needs to install grounding straps to the engine because they have had cases of static discharges affecting the ECU and stalling the car while driving. I have not had this happen to me but I scheduled to have the straps installed.

This gets me a free BMW loaner for a day. I hope I get a 535 to try out.

V8 - try to get the 535 as I'd like to hear your impressions of the two. Off topic, but how did you get the Monaco Blue met. on a 550? When I first started shopping BMW that was my choice but the color was not available on the 550 - one of the reasons I initially started looking at the 535...

It was an available color on the MY07. They changed this for the MY08's. I thinks its available on the M5 now.

I got the same recall notice, doesn't seem like a big deal.

Hope you are loving the 550, I'm just now at 9,000 miles. Barely broken in but the manual shift is like an old friend. Just wish I had some more noise from engine. May eventual do dinan exhaust to liven it up here in Alexandria VA.

Me too. Doubt you'll get a 535 as a loaner. Expect a 530 or some other non 335 3 series. I've always hoped for an M5.
