Rear wheel noise
Hello!
When I brake at low speeds I hear a high metallic noise from the left rear wheel. It is not the regular brake pad noise. It's a very metallic noise. I still have 8000 km till the rear brake pads change (as my iDrive says). What could it be????
help..

Maybe a stone or something in between the pad and the disk...
If it doesn't go away after a couple hard brakes, have it checked by the dealer...
I only experienced something like this once, on a previous car, and it was a stone making this noise...

I was thinking about a stone too...
Before going with it to the dealer.. I'll brake very gard from 160 km/h and if there is a stone.. it's history.. If not.. I'll see the dealer earlyer than hoped.

Well.. I don't think it's a rock there.
A orange triangle just appeared at Service/Rear brake pads
Even if it says I have 8000 more km to go.. I must go change rear brake pads and brake disks checked at BMW (That's what it says.. and that's what I'll do)
I'll ask the service guy what's about the metallic noise. And it only comes from the right rear wheel. Probably they wear in more than on the left wheel.

.... i had a metallic clunk from the driver's side rear tire.... only low speed.... drove me nuts....
Turns out it was a 4inch nail that had broken off in the wheel - at low speed would travel part way up the "rim" and then fall onto the center hub "clunk". Nail broke ( i think) because the length of the nail was greater than the radial width (545 Rear w/sport option) of the tire. In other words, it snaped off when the nail end hit the wheel hub. It all makes sense now but i never would have guessed. Portion of nail that stayed in tire made a good seal such that the loss of air was very slow... and it turns out, the Flat Tire Monitor also flagged the tire since it did have low air pressure (approx 25 psi)- which makes it rotate faster than the other 3.
I doubt your problem is the same, but it certainly was one of those ".... would you believe" stories.
