My SA took pictures and is (supposedly) emailing BMW NA for approval, will call the insurance if this does not work out.

Glass is funny stuff. If there was a tiny scratch or crack it would help facilitate the current breakage. Have you ever cut glass by scoring it? That's just a little scratch!

P.S. And yes your windshield and every thing on your BMW is fragile. Be careful next time.

We've just established that the Incredible Hulk owns an E60.

Seriously, that's a bummer, man. I hope the insurance will cover that.

My dealer came back with an update today.

Regular windshield replacement cost : $1800

BMW NA will accept a claim and cut my cost to $550

My insurance deductible is $500

so now I'm thinking if i should give it to the dealer or call the insurance company's glass guy. I'm out $500 bucks anyways

Don't forget that your premiums will also rise after the claim. I had a similar situation where if I make a claim, $500 deductible, it would actually cost me $1200 over three years.

Have you thought about simply gluing what you have back in place? Epoxy will work fine for that problem.

I don't think you should go to the insurance for it, since your insurance is going to raise. You should try what the other people said glue it first then if it starts to crack or something then you should find a glass outside of BMW. That's what I did, I paid $300 for mines plus labor. Still up and strong no cracks or rock chips the past year or so.
