What have been your experiences regarding rear tire wear on e60s?
I have standard 225/50-17 stock wheels with Conti TouringContact tires. I just bought a used 2004 530i and the rear tires seem to be wearing out really fast. Like in 8000 miles the once new rear tires are more than half way worn out.
Is that common? Also, it seems like the inside is wearing out more than the outside? Negative rear camber?

well our cars do come with some negative camber so a bit more wear on the inside would be normal, but half the tread life in 8000 miles seems excessive. However keep in mind that these are rear drive cars and I'm not sure your driving style but its possible that if you are heavy on the gas all the time that you are wearing down your rears faster.

That's the same tire my car came with, and I used them for about four months before buying my 124s. I didn't notice much wear at all. It was only a couple of thousand miles, but still, they looked new. 8K...doesn't sound right.

I think I'll manage to scrape about 13,000 miles out of my non runflat 19" conti's.
They seem to have worn pretty evenly, slightly more on the inside, which is expected, but the majority of the wear is from the center third of the tire. More than likely due to over inflation ( tend to run 2 or 3 psi more than recommended )
Are your tyres runflat?? If so it could be an inherent problem with runflats on BMW's. On my old E61 I had 2 blow outs on the inner edge of the tyre, when there was plenty of tread left on the majority of the tyre.
If I remember correctly BMW NA replaced a lot of RF tyre's FOC if they were below a certain mileage, and excesive wear had taken place on the inner edge.

So many variables....inflation, driving style etc. just keep a close eye on your tires all the time and you'll likely have longer lasting tires!

My Ride: April 2007 520D M Sport LCI. Automatic. Sunroof. BMW Bluetooth. Deep Sea Blue Metallic, Natural Brown Leather.
Rears lasted 55,000KM or 34,000 miles from new on Goodyear runflats......... 95% of my driving is 'highway' at constant speeds. Front tyres still lots of tread left after 70,000KM.

What are your thoughts on rotating non-asymetric and non-staggered tires such as these Contis or some of the Michelins, I think MXV4 for instance.
I would think that it would be good practice to rotate not just front to back, but also side to side in order to keep handling balance and to mazimize tire life. Any down side to roating that anyone is aware of?
