2007 550i. Pulling tires off car to get wheels and inner fenders cleaned. Right rear tire has a groove on the inner face - edge of tire, one spot has the wire belting showing. These are stock staggered wheels with 275/35/18 tires. Not lowered. Tire man says it's because BMW puts negative camber in, but tire wear is perfect across the face of tire. Any ideas what would cause this?

How many miles do you have on the tires? Also, I would get a second opinion just to be on the safe side.

+1 Rear tire tread wear can be uneven because of the independent rear suspension but are you saying the wear is more on the sidewall? If that's the case it's odd and should be inspected. And if only one tire is wearing oddly you should have the alignment checked - check that side rear strut too. Look for any signs of leaking that would indicate it's bad.

Depending on how much tread is left on the tire, you may find that the tire man is correct. Do some searching here on negative camber and I think you'll see a bunch of similar stories...

We bought the car used a year ago with these tires on it, looked pretty darn new. They are not stock tires. Car has 48k miles - two sets of tires, they are pretty much worn out so I don't have any heartbreak about that. Just want to have a grasp before new tires get put on. Thanks for your responses. Will search about negative camber. I read this forum and have learned much.

Yes, rear wheels have a -2.0 camber so it should wear the tires out on the insides more than the outside. If both rears look worn out on the inside equally, then it's normal. If not, have the alignment checked.
