Gentlemen...
I suddenly began noticing a humming noise coming from the rear of my 06 550 sport. i took it to BMW first. they checked it out and said there was nothing mechanical wrong. But they balanced the wheels and said that the noise was likely the tires. Kuhmo ASX that were about 15k old. So...I just bought Bridgestone RE960s. Fantastic tires by the way but the noise remained unchanged. So...I'm taking it back to the dealer to check it again. I have very little confidence in the dealer mechanics at this point. Just curious...anyone ever experienced this kind of speed-responsive humming. I'm thinking bent rim(s) maybe? Any thoughts?

If the tire change (uneven or thin tread wear often causes humming noise) didn't do it I'd have wheel bearings and rear differential investigated. It may take something as simple as a rear diff lub change to quiet things down.
Otherwise, maybe get a noisier exhaust system
