Just got my new 530i a few days ago in Australia...I just discovered that the rear cup holders and storage compartment is different to all the ones that I've seen ie the cup holders are just 2 big holes in the arm rest rather than ones the the flip over cover.

Does anyone (esp in Australia) know if this is a new thing?

It looks really cheap!!

Yes, we think we know why there is a difference in the rear armrest. It appears that the 5ers with fold down rear seats have a different arm rest as well. The ones with fold downs use an arm rest that has a flip down cover that goes over the cup holders. The non-fold down seats have an armrest with exposed cup holders.

Is yours without fold down rear seats?

No I don't have the fold down back seats. I guess I just won't leave the rear arm rest down...looks too ugly!

Im bringing back this topic from the dead. I searched everywhere for a recent thread where we were trying to figure out if the flip open rear cuphlder was retrofittable. Anyone remember this? I dont have fold down seats but I like the way that cupholder looks with the leather cushion when you close it.

I was thinking the same thing yesterday.. I looked through the rear window inside the car and saw an ugly gap between the middle headrest and the rearboard of the car.

Actually, this thread has a picture. It seems the cars with fold down seats have a longer storage bin in the rear armrest, so the whole aremrest would prbably have to be changed.
