This feature would be a great retrofit if possible.

I'm sure, given enough money, anything is possible!

I don't know why you would want it. I keep mine off. The auto-route thing is so horrible in the NY area it had me driving in circles for 2 hours one time.

I dont know if it works any better in smaller metros, but it totally blows around NY/NJ

Yeah, me too. I use my Verizon phone with Navigator 4.1.1 to decide which is the best way to go. Is this like the Bluetooth issue we had in 2004 where pharding finally found a dealer willing to figure it out?

It is a great feature - not for the re-routing, but for letting you know that you have traffic up ahead. Unfortunately a retrofit is probably not going to happen.

Why isn't the rerouting good? My onboard Nav is way off when picking bridges and tunnels in urban areas. If Bluetooth and SAT are possible retrofits, why not RTTI?

Because rerouting frequently can put the driver on slower roads and it would have been faster to continue on the original road.

With additions and deletions in radio receivers, plus Progman updates you would have to pay for, it theoretically could be done but BMW NA has stated they are not officially supporting such an upgrade.
