the bmw system around london regularly reroutes me, and not just on motorway, on many of the (what we call "a" roads) which are reasonably main roads. the smaller "b" roads its not concerned about, but having the a roads is more than good enough for me, and works well

I'm glad i do not do the London drive anymore! I recently moved and am happier now!!! Did a Heathrow run not long ago in rush hour(s) and it reminds you of what it gets like!!! I am sure it would be very, very useful around London...

The system works reasonably well. For now.

As more vehicles (all brands) are equipped with similar systems the re-routes themselves will become clogged.

Get re-routing while it still has the edge.

But surely if everyone else also re-routes, then the original route woule free up again? Therefore the quickest way through traffic is to stick to the congested route as everyone else would have gone a different way

Keep this quiet as it may be useful soon...

That is true. I sometimes use this "alternative route" called the double reroute. LOL

I live near a motorway junction and as soon as there's a problem announced on the radio not only does the motorway remain clogged but the local urban area clogs up too.

I think your reasoning may begin to work if the roads we were considering had equivalent characteristics.

Nice try.

Ideally the re-route should route based on both sets of traffic... Oh well, thats why i leave at 5:30am - i tend to miss most of it!

Not suprising, the Swedish tend to be more ahead in this game!

I guess it was quite hard to integrate it into navigation systems then.
