Hi, I have this here in the UK and it is supurb, when it works! Basically it depends on the traffic reports being sent BEFORE you get stuck - quite obvious but frustrating when you are already stuck when it finds out!

I travel over 200 miles round trip and have the sat nav guide me just in case it wants to re-route me!

Starting This september... so I'm guessing cars built as of sept 06 will have this.
Also it says "first time on any production vehicle sold in the US... I thought many japanese cars already had this traffic alert thing... or do they have somthing crappier?

This one from BMW sounds really good. I like it. Especially when you dont need to subscribe to anything.
I believe the "first time" refers to the dynamic re-routing. SOme Japanese models have "real time" alerts and traffic, but not integrated with re-routing to my knowledge.

I think the Acura offering has been able to re-route based on traffic for a couple of model years actually.

the acura rl's traffic nav sucks.

doesn't cover city streets, only certain major highways. its useless where i'm located.

I'm sure it's the same for BMW. So far, I can only see speed sensor on highway, not on local street.

Yes? I cross shopped an RL (don't ask what I was thinking) and don't recall that feature, but maybe the salesman was clueless or I missed it in the brochure.

I agree with others comments, that unless your daily drive is heavy freeway the value of real time traffic and re-routing is limited.

According to the following article the Acura system does NOT have re-routing------->CLICK HERE.

Here's a quote from the article: ".....BMW also claims the system will be the first sold in the U.S. that offers dynamic rerouting on the navigation system. We wanted to double check that statement so we checked with Acura, which was one of the first automakers to offer real-time traffic info, and indeed Acura's system on the RL will not reroute a path for the driver when traffic is encountered."
