Default ready to trade my 545i in, sick of active steering malfunctions!!

I'm losing my patience. I do not have a local dealer and always worked on my E46 myself. I think this E60 was a bad choice. I have checked the fluid, reset it, you name it. It will be fine and then I make a left turn and it acts up. Steering wheel position will sometimes get out of wack but straightens out after one more turn. I get malfunction and sometimes failure to initialize. I am going to try and get some diagnostic stuff so I can figure it out but what a pain. I almost want to go back to an E46. Any ideas???

i just did alignment on my 2010 550i and as result get this active steering malfunctions
dealer fixed free of charge as car is under warranty , unfortunately i need ISTA/D to work on this car so I need dealer help ( working on it )

I had similar issue with 2003 530i and i fixed it with GT1 ( should work for 545i as well )
all you need is to calibrate SAS so if you have this tool give it a try

I need to pick up a cheap laptop to toss all the BMW diag stuff on. I had my car aligned but they didn't have to touch the front at all. I'm curious of maybe the previous owner did.

I don't know anything about GT1 really I got this off eBay
BMW Progman v41 USB OBD Package DIS SSS NCSExpert INPA EDIABAS

Maybe I bought the wrong stuff. It sucks I'm just way too busy with work, kid etc. I can't be online for hours reading :-/ I have maybe 20 mins at a time. Had I did my homework I'd not have bought this car.

I had the same problem when i would turn my steering wheel, I diagnosed it with INPA and fault was in the steering angle sensor. I followed these steps and cleaned the disc inside the steering wheel and so far haven't had a malfunction come back in 6 months. Saved me a bunch of money!

Steering angle sensor DIY fix - it worked - BMW M5 Forum and M6 Forums
