My Ride: (USA) 645Ci, Silver Gray, Chateau, Cold Weather PKG, Premium Sound PKG, Sport PKG, Step, NAV [Std Equip in 645], HUD, Satellite (SIRIUS) Radio, Aux Input, Bluetooth enabled using iPhone 3GS w/ adapter cradle - Build date - 01/05, Baby delivered 2/24/05
This TIS discusses DEACTIVATED TCUs in E60/E63 built between 1/04 and 11/04 and list them by specific build (chassis) codes (last 7 of VIN). This might explain why certain folks have had no response on BMW Assist or some bluetooth issues.

cobradav,
This must be the underlying mystery as to why so many of us had those problems with the TCU units malfunctioning before the bluetooth supporting CIP software was available (and after they installed bluetooth supporting sofware).
My car was produced in 4/2004 and was able to be retrofitted to run bluetooth, but they thought that the TCU was defective and replaced it. The odd thing was that the new one they put in had a manufactured label on it for an older date than the one that was in the car initially. They thought it was defective and replaced it. It probably was just disabled like you found in that TIS

Yep, my thoughts exactly as I stumbled across this SIB. Probably a lot of forum members in this group. What seems another mystery to me is why the BMW service departments do not seem to use these SIBs or at least it appears that way. So many of us have to tell them whaz up

cobradv,
I was one of those lucky folks with my car built in early March (March 1 production completion). This is the likely explanation as to why my car required a new TCU (Which I paid for) in order to activate BT. My car, coincidentally, is the first chasis number on the list.
I will be going in to the dealer on Monday with the SB and talking to them about a refund for the cost I spent on my TCU.
Thanks for your hard work in getting this information.
