I have a high frequency rattle coming from the drivers side, front corner of my E60 530d.

It only occurs when driving on rough tarmac, which happens quite frequently where I live. The sound is consistent on rough tarmac, but disappears when the surface of the road changes to a smooth surface.

The rattle does not occur over bumps. It's not the seals, that's been fixed.

It sounds like it may be coming from the speaker (tweeter) high up on the driver's door or around the right side air-vent. Does anyone know how to take the cover off this speaker? The sound is suspiciously like a loose screw and has got worse/louder over time.

Anyone else got this problem? Before I book it in with my dealer for 3 days I'd like to try and fix it myself.

It's "normal" to E60.

I had the same problem. It turned out to be the buttons on the steering wheel. Try this experiment-- cover the buttons with both hands and see if the problem stops.
If that doesn't do it, hold on to the turn signal stalk-- that one caused a vibration too.

Same problem here, the rattle start the next day I bought the car. After a day looking for the rattle, it's below the buttons on the steering wheel. Check my picture, when you apply pressure on it, the rattle stops.

I been doing that for months when someone seat in my car.

Great I'll try these next time I'm out on the road, I never thought of the steering wheel buttons!

I read on another forum that it could be the clear cover over the rev counter and speedo, so I'm going to try that too.

I'll let you know if any of your suggestions help me fix it or not.

If anyone else knows something more, please let me know.

I had reported the clear cover but it's actually a little bit more complicated! But holding the clear cover the noise does stop - a very annoying high pitched squeak.

However, there is a gap at the bottom of the display and it appears to be this gap causing the noise! At the moment I've got my Tesco child parking card wedged in there and the noise has totally ceased and it's bliss!

I've tried to point to the area, but it's actually behind the steering wheel and all the way across...

Remember, only a Tesco child carpark pass will work!

I think the cold weather increases the amount of squeaks and rattles!

This happens to my car when driving over rough pavement. At first I thought something else, but when I hold that corner, the noise just stop.
