I am surprise so many people went for X5, i think they are one of the best handling SUV around the market, isn't it???
And i think BMW should primary work on their interior (not available tho), current model are miles away from its rivals,
But i went for the handling (surprise?) as their 1st piority objective, cos i think they just too much electronics now these day and my E46 are more fun to drive and more driver involving than my E60.
All personal view really

I can't believe that making more fuel efficiency/alternative fuels engines question garnered more votes than building more powerful engines. It must be a mistake, or Al Gore voted 300 times. Really, have you EVER heard anyone complain about having to much power? Sheesh....
and I hope the M power guys will make a bio fuel engine in the coming years, just like the Ferrari
when the oil become more $$$$ every year, you just got to vote for fuel efficiency/alternative fuels engines

3,x5,fuel efficiency/alternative fuels was my selection, but 1 series coupe and X6 were missing from list.
1 series coupe and especilly 135i reminds me about old 3-series (MY76-82) and 2002.

The 3-series reminds me more of the 1600/2002, which to me anyway, represent the beginning of BMW's most recent philosophy, or design concept anyway (boxy, 2-dr, light, reasonable power, great handling, fun). If the 128 had been on the list I probably would have chosen that since it's lower power, etc., is more in line with the aforementioned models than the 135. While the X-5 may be a great vehicle, it certainly doesn't embody BMW's philosophy as I see it. They jumped into the SUV craze to cash in, plain and simple. Again, not saying there's anything wrong with that, but it seemed more like a reaction to the market rather than a philosophy presented to the market. I chose fuel efficiency as a future goal. I found the other choices mostly already present in balance enough to suit me. Obviously, I did not buy a 5-series to save fuel, but we all know that manufacturers have the ability to make cars just as powerful AND get better mileage. It's just going to be a requirement eventually, so they might as well get on with it.
Obviously, any point I made will have a counterpoint, but it's just my thoughts on the matter. I love my 530 and all it's comfort, electronic gizmos, safety, handling, luxury accents, decent HP for my needs, etc. But, in many ways, my e46 325Ci was closer to that 1600/2002 philosophy in my mind. However, philosophies (and markets/competition) change over time, just as our need sets do. That's why I'm glad BMW offers us so many options.

X3 is missing from most non-BMW. I voted X5, but the X3 to me is more of a non-BMW. No power or performance and no luxury. The new X3 is better, but still the furthest from the BMW philosophy.
I am surprised at the response to alternate fuels, must be my North American ignorance to this global concern.
