Hi all, the radio in my 2005 530i won't work, the FM/AM icon in the entertainment menu is greyed out, it plays CD's no prob, the nav works and everything is fine, I'm told I need to replace the CCC, this seems a little extreme to me, WTF?

I doubt the problem is the Car Communication Computer. It is possible the computer needs to be reset and I think there is a way you can do that yourself. You may want to try the trans reset function. I know it sounds silly but it does reset faults and other things that might cause your problem AND its worth a shot, because its FREE!

Turn your car to the ON position (if you have a key which I believe you do), press the gas pedal down ALL THE WAY til you hear the click. Hold it there for 25 seconds and release. Then, turn the car off and turn it on again. See if it fixed it.

If not, you might have a problem with the antenna in the rear window? Ever considered that might be the cause?

No mods, it's bog stock, I tried the 25 second reset last night, did nothing for the radio but the gearbox is now sweet. I'm going to check the antenna thanks, good idea.

Nice! Well, the trans reset thing is amazing if you do it every 1k miles or so. It really makes a diff. =p

The antenna probably has little to nothing to do with it...

I've watched the K_CAN data on my car when the radio does not respond to button presses; mute, volume, on/off, channel/disc changes, etc. It looks like there is a saturation on the K_CAN, and maybe MOST bus, of data and the radio is slow to acknowledge/respond to the requests because of all of the other data on the bus.

Possible causes:
Blown fuses related to the amp and CCC
Loose K_CAN bus wires connected to CCC
Shorted K_CAN wires (although, you would see a lot of other stuff [door locks, windows, buttons, etc] not work if this were the case)
Loose or disconnected MOST BUS wiring on the CCC and/or amp in the trunk

The list can go on and on though... Are you willing to get a voltmeter, disassemble the car, and check things that we tell you to check?
