I have an '04 545i sport 6spd manual transmission with iDrive and the radio in it is not functioning at all. The mute icon is always on and I can not get it to unmute at all as well as the radio itself will not work. Anytime I try to select a station the selection highlighted just goes back up to the top- "FM, AM, CD" area and wont set it or anything. It won't play cd's either it'll do the same thing after I try and select CD. Wondering if anybody has ever had the same issue or anything similar. I took a video of the problem link is here
Any help would be much appreciated.

Do you have any sound at all, whether from door chimes or anything other than radio related? You should try reprogramming the MASK, your display shows the old startup screen it seems your MASK need an update. If the update doesn't work then you may need to check the Amp or the entire MASK unit might need replacing. If you have NCS expert try coding the MASK back to default first before you pay to do anything else.

@Gee_115 I don't have any sound whether it's door chimes or not. So I'm curious as to what that may mean of the car? I don't have any of the software nor the tools to reprogram the MASK otherwise I would on my own. It's a new car to me and I expected bugs because it's a project I'm starting out; with that said how would I go about reprogramming the MASK unit or should I just take it to a BMW dealership and have them take a look at it to see what they say?

If you don't have any software you don't have much of an option.
If you have no sound at all my first inclination would be that the amp has failed. The amp is part of the optical bus system(Amp, TCU, CD, MASK). If one component fails the entire bus system goes down. The amp is located behind the liner left side trunk. If you have to replace the amp you might be able to do it without any immediate software upgrade.
The dealer will charge for diagnosis. I guess the first place to start would be at an Autozone, they can read the codes for you, they will be generic but will give you an idea of whether it is the AMP or the MASK itself. The dealer only use new or reman parts from their warehouses.
If you are new to the car you really need to invest in BMW Standard tools, if you already have an old laptop laying around (XP works best) then all you have to pay is the price of the cable from ebay probably around $25 or so. The software you can download for free. These cars are very expensive to maintain and your car 545, has a very long history of notable problems. If you have to run to the dealer each time, you will be broke in no time.
