I'm trying to figue out this issue.
The radio on my 04 530i, cuts out at random intervals of 2-5 minutes, and each time it is out for about 3-7 seconds. It does not matter what station I am listening to. I live in the wash dc suburbs, so I don't think it could be reception problems due to distance/buildings, and the antenna strength meter shows at least 3 bars of 5 at the time of the drops. No problems when listening to the CD player.
Any thoughts, I plan on taking it in to the dealer, but wanted to have an idea on what it could be so that I don't fall prey to some type of non-explaining dealership "geekspeak".
Thanks for your thoughts/ideas.

I have not tried listening to the am bandm I'll try that tomorrow, before I call the dealership. EVen if warranty covers, the distance to dealer makes it inconvienant...oh well.
Thanks

I had an issue about 3 months back with the same symptoms. I think I was on CIP version 20 at the time.
It happened for about a week. Not sure how I came to the solution, but I turned off RDBS and then turned it back on and the issue went away.

RDBS is the text info displayed on each radio station... call letters, artisit, song etc.
to turn it on or off go to presets and push done on the idrive knob like you want to store the station to the preset locaation. You should see RDBS with a check box.

I turned off the RDS, and that seems to have fixed the problem, but now that leads to another one...
If the radio is capable of showing station info (call signs & songs, or shows) then why can't I leeave the RDS on without the cutting off of the signal? Seems to me that it should do both flawlessly, or is that not how it was intended.
Thanks for the info noonehome.
