I'm a bit confused I thought I read somewhere that you can see the name of the song that is playing on the radio or if you are playing a cd it will tell you the name of the song also. I get nothing like that. Just the station number and the track number. Do I need to turn a funtion on? Or I'm I just dreaming again. Thanks for the help ahead of time.

Two different things going on here. First, seeing the radio station and song info while using FM is called RDS and if you have Navigation, there are currently software conflicts leading BMW to have the RDS disabled on Nav equipped cars. It works fine in my non-Navigation car. Of course the station needs to be broadcasting the RDS siganl and not all of them do. Only a couple here in New Orleans do it. As for the second part, that is called CD text and is supposedly working, but the CD has to coded w/ the text. Only Sony does it on some of their discs and those that you burn at home may have it. But the ability to play MP3 audio is only just coming out, so you may need a software update to play them.

Thanks for the info. I don't have Nav. but like in the hillbilly state of Kentucky i'm lucky to even get FM stations. I will try some of my sony discs tonight and some of my burned cd's also. Again thanks for the info. I love this forum.

I know what you're saying about Kentucky. Were not much different here in the Third World country called Louisiana. One good rock station had RDS when I first got the car, but seems to have stopped carrying the RDS signal. You can try you burned discs, but I doubt they'll play yet. Depends how old your car is. Unless you just got it, they likely won't work yet.

Sirius satellite radio also broadcasts text info, such as song names, band names, and stuff like stock market info on the business channels, and that does appear on your iDrive monitor, even in Nav-equipped cars.

Well just tried a couple of burned cd's and they played just fine but only read what track is playing. Car is only 3 weeks old so I would think I would have updated software but who knows.

It needs to be recompiled with the Song Titles. Then it will show up in the entertainment screen not in the bottom I-Drive Info bar. This only applies to Discs in the CD player and not in the changer if you have one.

Make sure you put the CD in the in-dash CD slot. The changer does not show CD Text.
