seanjordan20. Thanks for the feedback. I'll try that tomorrow. One thing. When your fan turned on, did it stay on or run for a minute or so then turn off. When I did my test earlier today, I turned the AC on which seemed to trigger the low speed fan. It ran for a brief time, then turned off. Didn't come back on. Weird.

So just to verify, I can disconnect my the sensor on my lower radiator hose which should trigger the high speed fan? Is that correct? I think you guys also said it will trigger a check engine code but that will resolve itself in a couple of days. I won't need to have someone clear it for me??

Ok guys. Took the car for a drive today about 15-30 minutes. Drove it a little hard to get it hot. It's not a hot day. When I got back, the fan was on, but I believe low speed. I checked the radiator hoses. The upper hose (via infared) was about 170 degrees F, and the lower hose was about 90 degrees F. It doesn't seem like the thermostat opened up, but I'm not sure what the temp rating is of the thermostat. I think most of them are 180?? So I get hot air from the vents when heat is on, and with AC on, air is cold but not COLD!!! I'm not sure but things might be ok?? So far I have elected not to disconnect the fan temp connector on the lower radiator hose. I think you guys told me that should trigger the high speed fan but will also trigger a check engine code that takes time to clear.

I'm thinking about just driving it and see if it's good. Any thoughts?? Or suggestions, before I test it?

If you took it for a ride and no overheat warning light came on then you are ok. If the thermo did not open then you would of you definitely gotten an over heat message. It depends on the type of thermostat (degree rate) you got to how hot the engine will get. If you are at 170 then you are fine. You have to think you are measuring with an infrared through rubber so you will be +-3/5. The A/C system might need servicing to get the ice cold air you want. All fans do not turn the same speed. I have two in one of my cars and one turns a lot slower. In another car it turns medium speed. So you cant compare it to a different car. You can only compare it to your car if you noticed how fast it spun before it went bad. I would not do anymore testing because if it got hotter that 185 degree you would now it immediately.

Hey thanks for all the feedback. I drove it around last night and didn't pick up a code or overheat warning. The only thing I'll probably do today is follow the bleed procedure that another member sent me to try to get the air out of the cooling system. Since it doesn't have an electric water pump, the process is a bit different.

I'm still not convinced it's ok, but that might just be the concerned/cautious side of me.

Thanks again for all your help. Hopefully this item is resolved now. (fingers crossed).

Ok so I drove the car a lot today. It was not a hot day, only about 55-60 degrees F. I even got stuck in some traffic. No overheat warning came on. Before I got home, I drove the car pretty hard. When I parked, I noticed the fan was on low speed. The upper radiator hose was about 205-210 degrees F and the lower hose was about 150-160 degrees F. Does that seem normal?? I'm surprised that the high speed fan wasn't on. Do any of you know how I can trigger the high speed fan to see if it works??

Do you guys think this is all ok??

Default 400w to 600w - fan not working

Can I just drop into this old thread? I have replaced my 400w fan with 600w fan although I am not getting any errors in Carly, when I use ISTA+ it does't want to perform a test of the fan and throws up error IFH-0006: COMMAND NOT ACCEPTED (although before with my 400w fan, the test was working fine from low to high speed). Also noticed that the 600w fan has 4 wires and connector has 4 poles whilst mine has 3 (mine is manual and 600w is from automatic, although the part number is identical with the one bmw gave me for upgraded fan, so there must be a way of wiring the extra cable - just no idea where to). All schemes I have found have 3 wires for the fan (plus, ground and signal only). Am I missing something? Anyone done this swap and can help?

For piece of mind, it would be valuable experience to see if the old fan can operate at all.

I just bought a Noco Genius 7200 that has a mode called 'power supply'. It provides a straight 13.5v to the BMW terminal jump block when I'm using Ista or Inpa diagnostics so the battery is not labored.

You could attached something similar to the old fan.
