Did the current E60 530i receive the aluminum/magnesium composite 255bhp engine before Sept? If so when did they start building E60s with new engines, because I thought 2005s had the 225bhp engines? Thanks much in advance!

Yes it did. As of March 2005 Built. 530s got the new 255hp R6 engine. It was also then when they changed bumped the model year as 2006 models EVEN tho it was only March 2005.

2005 model years had the old 225hp engines. (* Pre-March 2005 built 530s *)

Same goes for the 525s

Pre March 2005 had 182hp and Post March 2005 have 215hp.

It seems they changed the motor before doing the rest of the 06 changes - so if you get a march-sept 05 production - it will be listed as an 06 with the 3.0 engine for the 525 and 530 (here in the US) - with the 215 and 255 hp respectively - however - as of sept 05 produciton they also changed to a chrome grill and start/stop button - and I am not sure if there were any changes besides that

So all car listed as an 06 have the new engines, but some were produced in early 05 (and I think that is when they started to produce the xi version also)

Yup thats correct. I also completely forgot about DSC+ that was also only included after Sept built cars.

But as for MP3s and Radio Prof the hardware needed for that is included in March 05 cars too.

So after Spet you got a "REAL" 2006 car instead of a half baked one.

Another question, how come bmwusa.com doesn't even list the M aero kit as an available option?

They do---when you go to build your 5 series, step 4 is "Accessories"....then there are words at the bottom: Wheels, Interior, and Exterior. These are actually tabs (though it's hard to tell)---click on Exterior and the M Aero Kit option appears as the far right option.

It's easy to miss if you don't know to CLICK on Exterior.

Hope that helps.

In addition, starting in Sep the satellite pre-wire came standard; prior to that you had to pay for it.
