Hey what's going on guys. New to the forum. I own a BMW 535i '08.

The car was purchased for my wife by her dad for "grad gift". Pretty sweet. Car has got around 71,000 and change miles. Pretty sure he purchased the car off a friend but I know nothing of the cars history nor maintenance records. Where can I find any of this information?

Also, around 71,000 what maintenance should be done? Of the top of your heads... Just ordered two cabin air filters (the things were DIRTY AS EVER!)

Will be checkin intake filter and such today. I feel this Bimmer has been a bit neglected since it has fell into our hands. Still in good shape though.

Oh and I have got an oil change on the car approx 5-6 moths ago. Is it normal for me to be getting engine oil low messages. I have had to top it off with approved synthetic oil at least twice. ( once after a few months prior the oil changes)

Thanks for your help!

Welcome to the forum... Check all fluids and filters. No I dont think its normal to add that much that often... I would say maybe a quart or less between changes depending on year... you have an '08 though which is fairly new. On my '04 545i I add a quart in between changes but I drive 100 miles a day. Check for signs of leakage around the oil filter housing, pan and oil pressure switch. Cabin filters and air filters are easy changes. And there is a service light reset tutorial floating around here so you can reset everything you do.

At 71k miles you may want to start watching the water pump, oil switch and coolant expansion tanks, all known to go around 75-85k.

Good luck.

...and to add to jaycal3, you can get the service record on your vehicle from any BMW dealer. Just give them the VIN. Enjoy the ride!
