I'm not convinced my heated steering wheel is working as well as it should (yes, it steers fine.
)
What happens is that the wheel gets warm but at the 9 and 2 o'clock postitions, where my hands usually are, it never really gets that warm. It's as if the unheated spokes are sucking the heat away from the wheel, I guess. Is this normal? My other BMWs that had heated wheels didn't suffer from this problem so I'm trying to figure out if it's worth mentioning to the dealer on my next visit.
Again, I'm hoping to get feedback from SMG owners but any/all comments are surely welcome...

Hey Rudy,
Same here so probably normal. It's not that they are cold, just not as warm.
6 & 12 is much warmer that 9 & 3.
If my hands are chilly I'll just move them around the steering wheel a bit.
As you mentioned last year, I wish the SMG paddles were heated also. They can get pretty darn COLD!.
I was thinking of coming up with some SMG-paddle mittens! (Fortunately my knitting skills suck).

Rudy,
i have same spec car and i have noticed that too-it warms up unevenly,i can not say if mine feels colder at 9 and 2 o'clock spots(i will look into it today and reply with more details)but what i noticed is that it works somewhat intermittenly-at times it feel warmer,almost too warm,then it cools down a bit,and i think i did notice that some spots are warmer than others.My previous car also was e39 540i sport and i don't remember heated steering wheel being a "problem".
I will reply with more details later.
P.S.i feel honoured and privileged to be of any help to you, Rudy the Master of this board

just to confirm-yes,my steering wheel is less warm at 9,3 and 6 o'clock positions,exactly where wheel is connected by those spikes,but that contradicts realtyman statement(12 o'clock is the warmest on mine but not 6 o'clock!)oh,well,i can live with that...
on the subject of paddles-it is an issue with me,as well as i-drive knob when it's cold...i was thinking of self-adhesive patches made of thin styrofome type of material-i think one can buy it at hardware store,any thoughts on that?

Yeah, six o'clock is cold too. The thin styrofoam would probably work on the paddles -- I just think it's funny how when I brought this cold paddle thing up a year ago, people thought I was nuts! (although that was probably before they knew I really am nuts!
)

Same for me. Feels warmest at 8 and 4, colder at 9 -10 and 2 -3. Though my fog light botton does get toasty warm.

Can't you wussies direct your heat ducts on the wheel? It's 44 in Dallas with a real feel of 55 -- going into the 70s by Friday. ![Tongue](https://5series.net/forums/images/smilies/imported/tongue.gif)

By the way, a properly set climate control system blows heat out of the floor ducts, not the dashboard ones -- so there!
