Boukehj and ressla have pretty much hit the nail on the head here. It is a big car outside the US. We should also keep in mind that the development of cars like the Lexus range, the progression of Camry and the progression of Passats has been driven by the need to meet US market demands.

As boukehj has pointed out, you see this best with parking. In my street, there is only a handful of lots that my car will fit into (I was already struggling with the E39 before now) and, when I do get the car into these lots, the car fills the lots to the white lines. In downtown Amsterdam, forget about it - there are preciesly NO public car parks in this city which will accommodate the E60 in one lot.

Don't know about that - I went on holiday to Europe last month and parked E60 in Amsterdam in the car park near the harbour opposite the main station and it fit ok. Then again, car park was quite empty probably as they were charging EUR5.50 per hour!

I actually disagree. In Europe the cars are generally smaller due to parking, road access etc, hence particularly in the UK so many diesels and small cars such as Golf, Focus etc. Obviously it seems large.

Here in Australia it is slightly smaller in comparison to our normal cars such as the Commodore and Falcon and could only really be considered a normal size. The 7 series would be the large car, which compares in size to the Statesman (2nd photo).

Cheers

thats a yes, especially if you are in India, as the cars there are predominantly very small. So the E60 Is certainl big there as it is big here in the UK, 2nd only to the 7 series.

Co-incidently a ALPINA B7 E65 Swallowed my car whole on the M11, he just left me.

It's not. It falls into the midsize segment. The 7er, A8, etc. are classified as large cars.

Here's a reasonable comparison of classifications in different markets.

I'd say, on average, cars in the US are one size larger than their European equivalents.

I'm in the UK and I don't class my E60 as "big". I class it as a medium sized saloon. I had a Volvo XC90 before the E60, and my wife has an X5. They are big cars. The S class and 7 series are big cars. The E60 is not much bigger than most of the saloon cars on the road, maybe a little, but not enough to call it big

My E61 Touring is too big for me! It's going to be an X3 next time around.

F10 = New 5 series from autumn 2009 onwards
