Anybody driving with all season tires on Winter? (Snow)

Smimhee, if you have heavy snow in your area, it would be safe to use winter tires. In many cases your all season tires will work, but in many other cases winter tires will give you the extra traction that can save your life. Also note that temperature influence traction ... so for cold and snow use winter tires.

Not knowing where you are located makes this harder, if you could update your profile to include your location it would help others recommend. Also I dont know if your driving an I or an XI. If you have an Xi you should be good with all seasons, if your driving and I, alot of it would depend on where you live. IE the terrain, how good the city/county is with snow removal etc. In Denver its pretty hilly just in the city alone, and a RWD car without snow/winter tires would not cut it in most parts, or unexpected snow storms. If you lived somewhere relatively flat and the city is agreesive with snow removal you may get by with all seasons. A lot of variables, but obviously winter tires will always give you the best traction in winter/snow conditions whether AWD or RWD

If heavy and sustained snow is the norm for your local area and if you travel on secondary or rural roads that may go unplowed, I vote for snows on all 4!

Modern, high-performance, snow tires are "very friendly" to high performance cars even when driven on clear, dry roads.

My car = 545i (RWD)
My Location = Up state NY (Rochester)

My problem is the parking lot !!!! Car can't get out due to snow. or during the heavy snow on the road....

I was going to buy 17inch wheels + tires from Tirerack.com but i was thinking to just change my summer tire to All-Season.

I need to decide soon...

Your more advice will help my decision...

Oh by any chance....
Do I need Run-Flat tires?????? or Can I just buy cheapest Winter Performance tires?
Tirerack recommending me Run Flat winter tires from Dunlop which is $205
I can get Regular Winter tires from Hankook Tires or something else for a lot cheaper price...

Buy the best tires you can afford, not the cheapest tires you can buy. Not saying that Dunlops are the best.

Remember, you are driving a $60k + (at least when brand new) auto, and the rubber is what separates the technology and safety feaures in your car from the asphalt.
