Hi,

I've got a question on approach to getting the fastest 0-60 time in my '60 530i. Do I start off normally in 1st at about 2000rpm, go to redline and then shift into 2nd and complete the run, or maybe rev to near 4000rpm and make a short run in 1st before shifting into 2nd? Or should I try to go through 1st, 2nd, and 3rd?

I'm looknig for what more experienced drivers have discovered about obtaining the quickest time with this car.

Thanks, Jon.

Go to redline, this way you achieve the highest torque on rear wheels.

I'm not sure that's right, torque tends to tail off at the top of the rev range and it might be better to shift just a little earlier. I'm not sure it would make a massive difference either way, but peak torque hits lower and fades out before redline.

I do a little bit of brake-torquing, and shift (well, pull the steptronics lever) at around the redline. Shifting at 4000 means you lose out on the high rpm power.

On my 2006 530i Step, I average around 6.7, which is 0.1 more than BMW's "conservative" estimate... what kind of times are you getting?

Indeed, it's power that you want - rev to maximum power output and then change gear... The power tends to dive before the redline so there's no point bouncing off the limiter!

Hmm, a bit of clarification - I have a manual transmission, so I can't really do a brake-torque start, can I?

Correct, you get to rev to your desired rpm and drop the clutch. Brake-torquing is the poor (or lazy) man's version of it (since we have the auto).

I take it to 2,500 rpm and use 1st to just before the redline, then 2nd to 60mph. Seems pretty good. The point about changing few rpm before the red is right though, the power fades just before it.

have fun!

With my 225hp 530i, I can get 0-60 in less than 4 second. Seriously! Ask my how. I'm not joking.

Make sure you jack your car up before perform this task
This will makes your car goes 0-60 in no time
It just like manufacturer dyno'd their engine w/o load. Same situation here that we measure 0-60 w/o load
I'm sorry. Cannot resist.

Is this a rhetorical question?
