Got two rims with snows fitted today and used the cheapest quote. They got the tires (snow RFTs) on seemingly okay. However, as always I inspect everything and noticed deep scratches right on the bottom lip of the rim. It is important to note that these are not visible unless one looks right at the bottom of the rim lip. There is probably three our four areas per rim.
Is this normal or unavoidable?? Rims look okay.
Should I take the remaining two rims and RFTs to another shop for fitment? Two wheels to go. I can only bring two wheels/two rims at a time with the seats folded down. Wheres a minivan when you need one.
I'll post pics tomorrow.

Wow, just in time for the big snow! I hope you were able to put snows on the rears first.
I've had 2 sets of wheels mounted with new tires within the past 12 months and there were never any scratches on the rims. It may depend on the machine used to install tires. Can you try another shop?

Yeah, I'm running two on the back right now. I need to take some pics. Blizzacks RFTs. Good traction in today's morning snow. Of course the fronts are summer RFTs and I missed a couple of turns as there is little grip.
The E60 drives like a Panther Tank, great in a straight line and not so agile to turn.
Tach, do you have any suggestions in Chicago for putting on RFTs. My two back rims are scraped pretty bad and I'm not going back to that fing shop. Other a$$hol% tire people are charging $80 per tire. Ah, pent up demand. Outta punch em in face and leave em in the snow.

Yes I am. Do you all remember the 70's my friends? Snow tires for the rear.
I'll take pics.
Oh, the scratches are very noticeable. Lesson learned. If you tire guy has no teeth and a ponytail, chances are he likes whacking wheels. Good Lord.

tirerack.com has a list of reputable shops in most locations. I found it helpful. It is under "Installers" link IIRC.
Thank you. I was waiting for a such a post.
May the force (whichever you prefer) be with you.

I've been using discount tire and I'm very happy with them. In fact they match tirerack's price. PLUS once you buy from them they will swap the snows out gratis! Yes, twice a year I bring my car in (with all four tires in it - one in the trunk, three in back seat - put them in bags) - and then change them out no charge.
So I would consider going there and telling them that you are sorry for not buying your tires there but want to make friends now
Oh and cars with stability control do not like mismatched tires -but you probably found that out already.
