It's a sensor problem.

I had the same malfunction in my auto-air 525iA E39.

It took about 5 minutes to change the sensor in the E39.

Dear Ricracing

Thanks for your reply the other day

Is it possible to find out what sensor they changed.
Pls note that they changed the IBS (Intelligent battery sensor) on my E60 but problem is still there.

Many thanks

Is the problem on standard air-con, the tapping noise you hear every few seconds?. Fan speed regulates a bit at same time. Very annoying.
If it is, mine also does it, tap comes from some sort of bosch pump which in in aircon lines under bonnet. I took mine back to the dealer & found they all do it!. No fix available. Brand new ones the same.

My car did not have this problem in the begining. No tapping noise is heard. Only my Fan speed regulates at certain times.

Problem was finally solved

It was a problem with the car grounds and connections. (concerning the aircondition and linked parts)

Anyway I'am a happy man again
