Well im not a linguist, But I think that OXFORD annotation will lean toward how common this word is in the UK English VS. USA...
Type 'Protuberance' on google and see for yourself - mass majority of the links are medical related...
Is there a doctor here ?

Anyone a Frank Zappa fan? I'm thinking of "Wet T-Shirt Night" from Joe's Garage ("...our big prize tonight is fifty American Dollars to the girl with the most exciting...")

Very nice. It's clear from my location I am not an English native. However I am pretty sure that this term is not wrong in this context. Probably it's not used so more in normal language, but that's not something I could know...

So, can someone clear this OT issue for me? Was it the right word or should I have used "the thing that sticks out"...

I asked him what he thought of the people who said he was getting too commercial.
He said, "they can kiss my a$$."
For kicks, I asked, "do they?"
He said, "why do you think they have brown lips?"
"Is that a real poncho...I mean is that a Mexican poncho, or is that a Sears poncho??? (from Camarillo brillo )

It's a light sensor, used by the A/C system to determine sunlight intensity and location; and also is used as a sensor for the automatic headlights, I believe.

Big Zappa fan here. I was a music reporter for the student newspaper in college, and one time when Frank was in town, I got 2nd row seats to review the show, and interviewed him in his hotel suite the afternoon of the show. What a cool experience!
