Hi, can anyone tell me how the computer works out the projected serivce date ?

Also, at what mileage have members had to carry out their first service ? Costs ?

My car is on a 2 year lease (ending 4/2007), with a maximum of 14,000 miles. I am keen to avoid forking out for the first service, which will occur around about the time I'm due to give the car back!

I've had the car 3 weeks now, and already the projected service date/mileage has moved.

My timing is usually perfect (or so the ladies say) .......But I think I need some advice on getting this one right!

Cheers.

The computer uses data from a number of sources based on driving style, miles and types of miles driven, etc. It's not unusual for service intervals to change based on the data as it is updated. You mentioned the first service- here in this country, the maintenence such as oil changes, brakes, wiper blades, fluids...basically everything except tires is included at no charge for 4 years/50,000 miles. Is it different over the pond?

This side of the water you have to buy the service pack, when I bought mine it was ?750, I think its gone up now to ?1K.

as far as projected time for service goes, The service time shortens to meet your increasing mileage so when new, my car predicted 18K miles for the first service, It now is due at 14K (400 miles time and is booked in next monday!

it carries out the calculations based on speed/wear etc using several sensors, the most important being engine rpm and time at that rpm

Doc,

Thanks for this......most helpful. 14,000 would be right on the button for me.......
I had the option of the service pack, but I thought it might not be worth it given the number of miles I had contracted to do.

How would you say you have driven your car in those 14,000 miles:

Style:
A. Aggressive
B. Sporty
C. Cruising
D. Pipe and Slippers (Grandad)......(Now don't be emabarassed to pick this one!)

This will enable me to get an idea of when I can expect my service interval to come up. I think I fit in between A and B, as most of my driving is around town, with little opportunity for motorway runs.

Cheers.

well, my previous cars have included a mini cooper S and a 330 sport cab, I've an M3 Cab (E93) on order and I'm halfwat through my second set of rears on the 530 (at just under 14K)....Guess its a bit more aggressive than A

Even better for me!! As Jeremy Clarkson would say for his cool board you are very much in the 'Sub Zero' category in the driving style category.
Respect!

I've still got nearly 2 years of E60 heaven!......you never know....with the lottery/increased funding in the health service/an understanding wife etc....may manage to stretch it to an M5.....doubt it though...reckon 50K is the ABSOLUTE limit for a car for me.
