...so I have booked my car in for an update.

First loaner slot not till 18th April - I've asked to see whether they can let me have a 335i or an LCI e60.... Hmmmmm

guess i will book mine in when I come back from Germany after Easter.
Good job is when the service manager is sort of a buddy, if they have no loaners, he usually gives me his car, which at the moment is a 3 coupe.

Will you have to re-"e-map"?

Also does anyone know if the Nav address book gets wiped?

Mine is booked in for next monday - to resolve an SOS Error message. This will need re-programming a new CTU but there is no gurantee it will be a Progman 25.00 I should get a 325 Cope here as a loaner

SO

I had it booked - at a different dealer - on the 4th of April for the iPod skipping issue they booked me a 2007 525i loaner

It depends, if there is a new ECU map then it does wipe it out. My DMS got wiped out with v24. Address book and all user data has managed to stay on for the last few updates I've had.

That then begs the question, do the likes of e-maps and DMS use the NEW ECU map and modify certain key tables only or do they just blast their "stock remap" back over it.

Yes, I will have to re-e-map, from what I can see. When it gets mapped again, the actual ECU status gets read out again and a new map created on basis of that one, if you so wish. Some might just blow the saved original re-map back on, but to me it doesn't make too much sense.
Have heard a weird story that the progman update incorporates some parts of the mapping parameters into the new base map.
How true that is, I will probably have to find out.

Excuse my ignorance, what are the benefits of this upgrade?

Cheers

1. Solve CD spinning/playing while car is off
2. Show off that "me" have latest CIP with new i-Drive screen
3. Be Guinea pig for US users

Harm:
In some CIP upgrade, it disables eyebrows

If your car has no issue, don't even to bother upgrade software.
