Impressive Bruce - will you share how you managed to get 7 digit postcodes working sometime?

Exactly the same principle as speed cameras has been used here.

Get a file of UK Postcode POIs (eg here or somewhere better) and use the same technique as for speed cameras (which I see you have mastered).

The drawback of this method is:

a) it's only as accurate and as complete (or more likely incomplete) as the data created by keen fans
b) displayed as a point on the map only (ie navigate to that point only)
c) no linkage to the address database

I passed on this intellectual challenge in preference to Fish & Chip Shops...

For postcodes you don't need to link it back to the address database because the full postcode is actually the address. Also it's quite easy to link it back to the address database too. All you need to do is go back to the Destination Input after you have navigation set for the postcode and then enter the missing bits e.g. House Number.

Also I wouldn't use that POI database it's quite pointless its got only about 10,000 postcodes on there when the UK has over 2.5M postcodes. The best source for postcode data is Royal Mail themselves.

Anyway coming back to the thread, as I said it can be done but ABC rightfully points out "by changing the user requirements a bit and then managing the expectations"

Yes, that's the point I make - fandom POI databases are usually lacking hence my suggestion of "somewhere better". May I ask which you used for you POI solution? I understand if you are unable to say.

I notice there are a number of "suppliers" online eg...

And a very worthwhile alternative provided that it is complete enough to meets the user's expectations.

Maybe I ought to add this functionality to my "Fast Food Outlets!"

I wouldn't use that too. Its a 5 year old and incomplete database that used to be hosted on www.pocketgpsworld.com until Royal Mail made them remove it. Its being sold on eBay as the Navman postcode database.

Is there a free download for the Royal mail PAF ? or do we have to pay the original prices.

It seems to me that if one is going to legitimately purchase a POSTZON licence then there would have to be a pressing commercial reason which would quickly recoup the "investment"... although a single-user POSTZON licence is 'only' 50GBP isn't it? Ooops... the data is 2750GBP per year!

Did anything ever come of that deal with Navteq?

For those who want to read about the kinds of problems anyone wanting to do this from the POSTZON file may have had to face, click here.
