Hey guys, unfortunately I have run into some problems with my 5 series. For those of you who dont know I have a manual 2005 530i sport package. It all started on a beautiful sunny day trying to turn onto the main street from my neighborhood. I see this car coming and quickly wanted to accelerate to get in front of it so i floor it and my car didnt feel right in the middle of me flooring it. I then tried to reenact that scenerio by doing it again. To make the story short from 4,000-6,000rpm my car feels like it is dying off. The tachometer goes up and down quickly starting at EXACTLY 4,000rpm and does it in ALL gears. PLEASE HELP I have no clue what to do Thanks in advance!

How many miles do you have on the car? I'm thinking that your clutch could be worn and starting to slip.

I have 54,000 miles. Wouldnt the clutch show signs in the lower rpm's as well. All else is fine with the car, smooth gear shifting, smooth stop to first gear. Its weird. I have an extended warranty but I am affraid that it doesnt cover clutches, just the transmission...or is that the same thing. I got an aftermarket warranty. Should I just take it to the dealership and see what they say about it?

54000 doesn't sound excessive for a clutch, maybe someone with a manual trans can chime in. No harm in having the dealer take a look at the car, thereafter you can determine your options. Sorry for your trouble.

I doubt it is your clutch or transmission. Likely it is a faulty engine sensor. Take it to a good indy BMW mechanic or the dealer.

Ill do that..I didnt think it was the clutch because it was drivin by an old man before me and I dont do any excessive driving to ruin my car. Ill let you guys know what it is and hopefully its nothing big. Thanks for the help...if anyone has any other ideas please let me know.

I doubt if milage alone would wear out your clutch plate. The previous owner could have been a clutch rider (putting in clutch a block before stopping being afraid it would stall) or slipping the clutch ( keeping vehicle in gear on hills and engaging and disengaging to maintain position w/o using the brake). Brakes and clutches are prone to normal wear and are not usually covered under warranty. BMW maintaince plan covers at least the brakes.
