My Ride: SOLD...Jet Black 2008 550i M Sport with SAT, black interior. RPI exhaust and air scoop, 35% huper optik tint all around, CF roundels, flat black kidneys, Springfield Armory XD-40 jet black in glove box, charcoal filter removed.
Hey everyone. I recently sold my 550i, still have the wife's 325XI though. Yesterday we had our first issue with it. When running it feels like its "fluttering" - hard to explain but that seems like the best word. Its running rough, but in a fluttery way, not knocking and missing and stuff, just fluttering.
Any ideas what to check first?
Thanks!

Check for codes stored in the system yet? You may be throwing a code for an o2 sensor or something simple like that, and it wouldnt necessarily show a dash icon either. You would be amazed how an o2 sensor can throw off an engine. I just did one in my Jeep and prior to the replacement it was rough and almost stalling every couple of minutes. It seemed to go from running perfect one day to almost cutting out the next. I changed out the sensor and its back to normal...

for the benefit of the next guy, here is what the dealership said it was:
Bad ignition coil on one of the cylinders, also causing a bad spark plug. they are replacing a coil and all six spark plugs for $400 total. Rip off, but what the hell. runs like a champ again.
I think I'll look into replacing all the coils soon myself.
thanks to those who threw out ideas.
