The wheels are hub-centric and rust particles collect over time and the wheels stick. Before you throw your back out, try taking one of the wheels/tires you just bought and gently swinging the tread at the sidewall of the stuck wheel. If you have an old tire around, that will work as well. Or, lie on your back facing the car feet-first like you're getting ready to do a leg press and kick the crap out of the sidewall with your heels. Just be ready to react when it comes loose. Good luck. Also, to prevent this in the future, clean the rust from the hub and apply some anti-seize or other lubricant. Next time, they'll come right off.

...or try lowering the car with a few loose lug bolts installed, but not all of the way. The weight of the car could be enough to pop the wheel loose. If that doesn't work, smack the crap out of it!

sit down on the floor and then kick the side of the tire alternating between sides. it'll come right off.

My method:
Jack up car, remove lugs, place block of wood against inside of rim (wood won't damage the rim), whack the block or wood with a small sledge hammer. Wheel pops right off with no damage.
Always clean hubs and cover with a coat of grease before installing new wheels.
