Hello Everyone;

First of all, I would like to greet everyone; Joined this forum few months ago, new member, proud owner of E60, my first post.

So, this is 2nd time it has happened in last 2 weeks. when i start car in morning, it just jerks and everything turns off, like battery is loosing its power or something. wait few seconds and it starts.

i have noticed, both time it was monday morning, car last driven on Friday, sitting in garage for sat/sun.

1 st time i got message in setting, "check your battery terminals, might be loose" same day by noon message was gone.

Do you guys think its battery? or some other problem; [IBS ??]

called up dealer here in central NJ and got pricing as below:

3 options:
$196 ; $ 214; $ 250 depends which battery i need, plus $ 125.00 installation & registration.

i told them about message about loose terminals, they said it might be. they will have to run diagnostic which is $ 120.

what should i do? any suggestions?

thank alot in advance!!

I would tighten up the terminals and see what happens from there. You can do that yourself at no cost.

DIY...

is this on a 545? mine did similar when I left it parked over the weekend. replaced the battery, still did it. alternator did the trick. but if tightening the connections doesn't fix it, you're probably looking at a IBS and a battery. you can use any size battery you want of the three, provided it's not smaller than what the car came with. when they register the battery they can program the IBS for the correct battery amperage if you go bigger. (I did and saw the programming done.)

@ 545felix; it's 04 530i.

After reading a lots of posts, I know it could be anything.

Battery,IBS, Speed Senor, Instument Cluster, Starter, Solenoid, Camshaft Sensor, Crankshaft Sensor, Fuel Pump, or alternator.

I am taking it to BMW [Bimmer Clinic] tech in next day or two, soon as i get an appointment.

will let you guys know what happens.

thanks for help!
