Hey everyone. I bought an 04 530 a couple months back and so far i just love it. I've been an avid reader of this forum and i've learned a lot about the car. I only have one problem and I feel pretty stupid about going to the dealer and asking for help and was hoping some of my fellow members could assist. Everytime I go to pump gas in my car it clicks as if its full every 30-50 cents. I read the manual many times and followed there directions on how to tilt it and whatnot. Are there any tricks to follow?

Are you running on mostly empty? It has happened to me when I have driven around the town with no longer trips and mostly with almost empty tank. I think there too much air pressure in your tank.

I never run with less then 25% in my tank. Whether i go on long trips or just putt around town, everytime i go for a fill-up it takes me forever.

Used to have this sometimes on my old 545, happened no matter how full or empty the tank was. Try pulling the nozzle out by an inch or so and that should help with the back pressure when filling. Did the trick for me...

There was a Service Bulletin on this (SI B 16 02 05):

SUBJECT
Fuel Tank Difficult to Refuel

MODEL
E60 (5 Series) All Models, E63 and E64 (6 Series)

Vehicles produced from 07/04/2004 up to 11/18/2004

SITUATION
The customer complains the fuel tank is difficult to refuel which causes the fuel filler nozzle to shut off repeatedly.

CAUSE
This failure is due to a defective service valve located in the top of fuel tank. The service valve cannot be replaced separately since it is plastic welded to the tank itself.

PROCEDURE

Replace the fuel tank.

If raw fuel is found in the DMTL pump during tank replacement, also replace the DMTL pump and carbon canister at the same time.

Important Note:

When installing the new fuel tank, it is very critical that the hose from the top of the fuel tank to the DMTL does not get kinked, twisted or crushed. Please pay special attention to the placement of the hose when installing the new fuel tank.

PARTS INFORMATION
Refer to EPC for proper parts information

WARRANTY INFORMATION
Covered under the terms of the BMW New Vehicle Limited Warranty.

Technically no i haven't tried another gas station since i always fill up at my family's station. I'm gonna go ahead and try that as well as pulling the nozzle out by an inch. If these don't work looks like i'm gonna have to take it in for service. Thanks again guys for the help especially bama214 for the service bulletin.
