I have a problem with my electrically folding mirrors, its around -5 to -15 degrees C here and after carwash the mirrors are acting strange (i havent had any problems previously, so i think the temp has something to do with it). If i fold the mirrors in, it works fine, but if i fold them out, they fold out all the way, i mean till they are backwards, and cant move no more. Is there a way to reset the center position or is the problem something only the dealer can fix?

The car is 545iA 03/2005 and have the latest software (i dont think that its a software issue). I dont have any pictures, but if i fold them out, its the same, as you fold them all the way out by hand. I can use the mirrors, if i fold them back to normal position by hand.

Yes, have had that problem occasionally, I just folded them back in and they were fine afterwards.

Def down to the temp.

Mine are not fine afterwards, every time i use electric fold, the problem is there, maybe i'll wait for warmer weather and see if it's ok.

Sounds like a temperature (or ice) issue for sure. Are you able to park the car in a warm garage or something to let things thaw out? Until you warm it up, I'd avoid using the motor to fold/unfold them (although I don't imagine much damage would occur...)

If the motor and folding mechanism were operating against some ice (it can form quickly at that low temperature [-15C = -5F]) that may have caused some mis-adjustment.

Should be a combination of water and low temp. I got exactly the same problem last week on the driver's side mirror after washing and then driving around in -20. It worked OK again once it got warmer so if you just give it some time or put the car in a warm garage you should be fine as well.

2nd what Rudy writes also on avoiding using the function since I tried just that and got a pretty nasty "snap" sound and it wouldn't move at all for some time. I thought I broke it (and of course immediately developed mental images of M5 mirrors ) but after a while it came alive again and now it's been working perfect since.

Quick comment not quite related to your problem, I have a '05 545, where is the electronic mirror switch? On my door panel I have the joystick like on top and 2 separate buttoms underneath, one is to switch from left-right mirror and the other is a push buttom but it does not work!! Is that the buttom?? Thanks.
