Hey guys, this is something I've been interested in for a long time now, another post in the forum sparked my interest in getting an opinion about this once again.

I've seen one video review, and one written review that both state the older E39 M5 is almost identical in driving feel and handling as the 08-10 E60 550I (with the recalibrated sport suspension which lowers the car 15mm and has the links and joints from the current E60 M5. In addition, the variable ratio steering was removed as a stand alone option on 08+ 5 series models, but kept the Servotronic rack and pinion steering (this returned the great steering feel the E39s had to the E60s).

I want to hear how similar that two are driving feel. Similarities vs differences. I'd appreciate if previous owners of the E39 M5s who now own E60 08-10 550Is to comment on this and share their insight.

Bump. 110 views, not one person in this situation? I guess downgrading isn't a common occurence among owners here --you usually have more assets with age.

I have a 550I MSport, but I'm hunting for M5 owners, lol. I've driven an '08 535I, '04 M3, '01 740iL, '97 528i and a '04 760Li in the past, but no M5. Certainly the 550I has a closer feel to the M5 than any of the above, but I do not have any friends who own M5's.

Maybe I need cooler friends?

You should move to Socal instead (if you're not already here) and attend the meets . Every Euro car you can imagine there!
