Hi all,

This is my first posting in this forum but I'm reading it for some weeks now. Interesting!
From the beginning of last month, I'm driving a E61 525d. Very nice car! I'll post a photo when the weather over here gets better

My question: the manual says the display should give a warning when the diesel engine needs pre warming. But it's freezing cold here (-7 ?C) and my car sleeps outside but I can't find any warning at all when I turn the key...

Somebody any idea where I should look and what the pre-heating symbol looks like? The instruction manual doesn't show this..

Many thanks,

Chris

I have seen that few times below freezing temps. But because I use heater it does not appear every morning. When it appears I wait until it disappear before taking off.

The symbol is a yellow 'coil'. The bottom line is that the electronics will not let you start the car unless the pre-heat has been done... Generally it's so quick you'll never notice - I heard a rumour that the pre-heat is done before you even put the key in the ignition?!

Never seen the symbol - I just turn the key, hope I haven't knackered it! I'll take a closer look next time I drive it.

It rarely appears because I think the car cleverly pre-warms before you even put the key in... I think I've seen it twice! You can't damage anything - the car just won't start!

Try starting the car without your foot on the brake - it stops that too, and a nice little graphic of a foot on the brake appears!
