My 2004 530i just developed a problem with the rear windows. They close all the way, and then open halfway down by themselves immediately after hitting the top position. The right one is now functioning normally, but the left one is still doing it. I have to close it in 1/4" increments until it gets to the top. If I hold the UP button, it will again go down halfway. Any ideas?

Do you have the anti-trap error on your idrive? The same thing happened to mine and I ended up taking it to the dealer to get it fixed. Recently the auto-up function stopped working on my window and I reset it myself. Try it and see if it solves your problem.

First, either turn your car on or put the key in position 2 so you can open/close the windows
go to the window with the problem and roll it all the way down
after it's down hold the switch all the way down for 20 seconds
Roll the window all the way up and cross your fingers.

I had the same problem in my 07 530xi. I tried all the diy and the resets that are mentioned on here. But after taking it into the dealer, I learned I had some window motors failing. Good luck!
