Yeah the new sport tranny also has a sport buttun too. I don't know why your dealership wouldn't try to sell you better on the newer model tho.... 08 sport package comes with the m-tech kit, 19" special ///M wheels, sport suspension and shadowline trim... $4,600..... with an extra option for the sport trannt

The 07 550 for sale is through a private party. When I mentioned this to the dealer(s) they kept telling me that the 08 is some kind of completely different car, but aside from the aero kit, and black exhaust tips, they didn't have any other explanation as to why. (in typical dealer fashion.. I can't understand why someone who sells cars for a living doesn't know them in and out)

What about suspension? Say I was to purchase the 07 non sport. what kind of upgrades would I be looking at in order for it to perform in similar fashion to the sport?

I say that all the time, I always seem to be telling them about the car,......it's a big turnoff.

The cost savings is beneficial but, my rational, if cost is not a factor....go for factory installed options instead of out of factory installation. No need to worry about sending the car to the body shop for modifying the bumpers, skirts and matching the paint, getting the suspension modified at another place and so on and so on. As for the steptronic, I did notice a difference than the previous step I had in my 04 545. The shifting was much faster, but the SAT is another world on its own from what I have read here. I decided against it for 2 reasons, did not want to wait for June delivery and was a little leary of being earlier adopter of a new transmission type. I had my share of issues with the MY04. My 2 cents.

Either way you go, it is still an awesome ride.

If I do decide to go with the 08, I still may go with the 6 spd manual. That was an absolute thrill to drive. Shifts were like butter and the clutch was amazing. They do have a VERY nice Alpine white 6 spd 550i fully loaded with black interior sitting at the dealer. I really think that car is calling my name

Pull the trigger !! That is a beautiful car ( biasedly speaking of course ). I just saw that BMW Canada has posted a 5.9% rate for 08s ,what about there ?

I figure the apr would be around 4-6% if I were to finance it. They're offering me a good deal on a 24 month lease and that's something I might look into. I'm just not sure yet. I've test driven an e550, a cls550, an s4, an m45, and a 535i.. The 550 blew them all away IMO.

You're working very hard at rationalizing an irrational decision. A rational decision would be to get something dull like a Prius.

Assuming you're not going to go broke as a result, get the car that you want.

They look much better with three pedals, IMHO. However, I may be slightly biased.

Was the 550i u've driven had the Sport Automatic Transmission or was it a normal Auto Trans? Did you try both?

I own a 08 550i with the sports package but with regular auto trans. I been wondering if there's any difference between the normal auto and the SAT...
