The lack of 7 digit postcode entry infuriates me too. Having given BMW ?2500 on my last 2 cars for Sat Nav that has limited use / goes slow when it's cold, voice control that has around a 30% success rate (and I don't have a particularly strong accent!) and bluetooth that's temperamental, it will give me great pleasure with my new 5 series to save the money and buy a portable system for one-tenth of the cost, that will do all of these things properly AND tell me when I'm approaching speed cameras etc
I agree, thankfully I have an old Road Angle which I use for Nav and Speed Cameras, but it looks crap stuck to the window. Had I known how useless the sytem was I would't have bothered forking out all that money for it.

By the way, from my original post my brother drew a blank, when he returned to the dealer they put in the latest DVD and as RUSS said, makes no difference.... and despite a "heated debate" they would'nt let him keep the new disc. Pretty poor show for BMW.

Having said that the 535d's are absolutely brilliant in all other respects, waiting to hear what RUSS says about the Sprint Booster after his DMS mod. Have already called DMS..looks like they going to be doing another couple of cars. Just got to try and keep hold of the old driving licence

I'd like Bruce to reply in public if he has some useful info about 7-digit postcode. Why keep such useful details private when everybody in the UK with a 5 series would love to have this option and will no doubt stumble across this thread using Google.

Sprint Booster is due to arrive early next week, looking forward to it!! PS - don't forget to ask for your E60.Net Forum discount when booking your DMS remap!

I agree. Come out of the woodwork bruce! Yesterday i was in ireland and i had to hire a car- a ford focus was booked. "Have you got a 520d auto?". "well yes sir we have". So i had it for the day as i was interested in a full days test drive. I was well impressed. It was the 163bhp but the auto box was brilliant and much better than the manual box.

I was also happy with the idrive. no sat nav but the other stuff was really good. I have a nokia N95 which i linked to car within 5mins with no problem whatsoever. I think i will look to the media pack now, but bruce would help greatly if he could just elaborate on his initial comments.

By the way, the bluetooth "disconnection" problem happens on my jag, on my girlfriends ford and my mates alfa. I think the concept is new, and has a few niggles. In ireland mine never even missed a beat.

All I can say is, if you want info on 7-digit postcode entry, Bruce has some very useful advice which could potentially allow you to achieve this. Send him a PM - the information is not repeatable in public

Thanks very much

But I thought, going by the "How to put POI and Speed Camera locations onto your Nav" thread that we were here to help each other get the most out of our cars, not charge for the priviledge.

I apologise if I offended Bruce, Lancaster or anyone else.

Have a nice weekend everyone.

Can you edit your post three above so it does not mention the specific details. I am sure you can appreciate why this information should not be public.

If you want to know how to achieve this yourself rather than reward Bruce for his efforts, instructions are below;

1) Get hold of the full UK postcode database
2) Encode it so that it matches the BMW format
3) Merge the database data in to the original BMW data
4) Burn the dvd
5) Insert dvd in to your car

Sounds easy? no. Have to be a software expert to do it? yes. But now you know how to do it.

It's no different to any other 3rd party mod - there is no easy way to do this yourself. The knowledge to do it yourself comes with years of computer programming experience, it's not like you just go in to iDrive and tick the "enable 7 digit postcode" box !!
